Maria Vachlon - Therapist Intern

Maria (she/her) is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at Arizona State University, with a focus on somatic and embodied practices. She is formally trained in EMDR and integrates somatic techniques and Internal Family Systems (IFS) approaches to help clients process trauma, build resilience, and foster healing. Maria strives to create a safe, grounded space where clients can connect with their bodies, explore their emotional experiences, and cultivate self-awareness and personal growth.

Maria's recent internship at Survivor Wellness provided her with the opportunity to support individuals affected by cancer, helping them navigate the complex emotional and physical challenges of their journeys. This experience deepened her commitment to working with those facing adversity and informed her compassionate, client-centered approach to therapy.

Maria earned her undergraduate degree in religion from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota, which has shaped her appreciation for the spiritual and cultural aspects of healing. Before pursuing her MSW, she spent five years working in wilderness therapy, guiding individuals through transformative outdoor experiences and learning the powerful role nature plays in emotional growth and healing.

Outside of therapy, Maria enjoys climbing, knitting, and spending time with her cat. She is passionate about supporting clients as they navigate their own paths to healing, offering a holistic, trauma-informed, and creative approach to the therapeutic process.

Rebecca Cohen, LCSW is Maria’s clinical supervisor.
